Repeat miscarriage

When a patient has experienced repeated miscarriages, a more specialised approach is required when embarking on new assisted reproduction treatment.

The exact number of miscarriages that would be classified as repeat miscarriage is unclear due to the number of factors that may influence each case.

However, if this situation occurs, treatment should be refocused in another direction, looking for the possible underlying cause:

Genetic reasons: parents and embryos would be studied. In these cases, studying the remains of the miscarriage is useful for diagnosis.

Hormonal reasons: in assisted reproduction treatments, hormonal variations are controlled and directed by means of medication, and in such cases, hormonal values are controlled more specifically.

Other: immunological, haematological, anatomical reasons…

The causes of recurrent miscarriage are similar to those of implantation failure; therefore, the study and treatment will be determined by ruling out genetic, immunological, haematological (thrombophilia), endometrial, and anatomical factors.
